Allosaurus

It's 100 million years ago.  Everything is quiet in the forest that covers what is now Wyoming.  Suddenly, a fierce growl is heard.  Running through the forest on his two hind legs comes a terrible animal. It is as big as a two-story house. Its huge mouth seems to smile, showing three-inch-long teeth.  It is Allosaurus, one of the fiercest of all dinosaurs.

Allosaurus reaches a swamp.  And what does he see?  A great Brontosaurus.  The gentle giant is much bigger than Allosaurus, but that doesn't bother him.  To Allosaurus, Brontosaurus looks like a lovely big meal. With amother great growl, Allosaurus attacks the poor Brontosaurus.  Bronto is too big to move quickly.  Before he can run, Allosaurus's great jaws are clamped around his neck.  Soon Brontosaurus sinks into the swamp.  And Allosaurus starts to eat his meal.

This story happened 100 million years ago, but we know it's true.  In Wyoming, fossil bones of Allosaurus and Brontosaurus were found together.  The Brontosaurus's backbone was bitten clear through.  And stuck in the bones were found some of Allosaurus's teeth.  These many years later, we can only wonder about that terrible fight.
