Spitting Cobra

If you see a cobra that looks dead, be careful!  The cobra could be playing dead.  The spitting cobra can play dead to trick its enemies.  It plays dead by rolling over with its mouth open.  This is only one way the cobra protects itself.  The other way is by spitting poison.  It can spit poison up to eight feet away.  Most of the time the poison does not kill the enemy.  But it can cause a lot of pain.  When the cobra is ready to spit, it makes a hood around its head.  Then it lifts its head off the ground.  The Spitting Cobra is a deadly snake.  But it only bites what it wants to eat.  The Spitting Cobra lives in Southern Africa.
