Python

Python

If you think you get hungry after school, you should meet the hungry python to know what a big appetite is all about.  With its large, loose jaws this giant snake will swallow anything up to 120 pounds.  They have been known to swallow a pig in one gulp as well as a whole leopard.

The python, which can grow up to 33 feet long, kills by tightening its coils around the victim until it stops breathing.  After each large meal, the snake will rest quietly for a few days to digest the food.  Eating such huge meals has its problems too.  Some pythons suffer from first class stomachaches when such hard things as porcupine quills and antelope hords tear holes in their stomachs.

Luckily for you, pythons rarely swallow human beings, although that happened to a 14-year old boy in Asia in this century.  But some pythons do like to live near people.  In 1899, a python was found in the king's palace in Bangkok, Thailand.  When it was killed and cut open, the python was found to have swallowed one of the kin's Siamese cats complete with its silver bell.
