Challenges: Round 1
#1. MAKE A FLAG, MAKE A NAME: Students are randomly placed in groups. The class brainstorms on possible prizes and "What it takes to be a strong survivor in a group."
#2. MINI CHALLENGES
a. Builder Ted: put decimals from greatest to least computer game.
b. GUMDROP TOWERS: Using toothpicks, gumdrops and spaghetti noodles, the tallest tower wins!
c. LOOK ALIKES: Elaborate sets are designed from ordinary objects. The group that lists the most items wins!
d. Grade level designed:
(gr. 4-5) WHO WANTS TO BE MILLIONAIRE: Using mental math, get every problem right to earn a million!
(Grade 3-4) FRACTION FRENZY: Computer game of quick speed matching of equivalent fractions
e. Grade level designed:
(gr. 5-6) PUT TOGETHER A U.S. PUZZLE in record breaking time!
(gr 4) MATH LOGIC GAMES -- find the bargains with math calculations, manipulate patterns using toothpicks
(gr 3) GROCERY GAME- add items from a grocery list and make change from up to $25.00!
#3. TOY CHALLENGE: This is a whole class game where students are secretively given 3 toys. Each toy has a match and they must listen while students request matches from others and remember who has their match. The group with the most matches at the end of the game wins!
