Three-Legged Man

Some people complain about being different than other people, but not Francesco Lentini.  Francesco Lentini was a man who led a happy life even though he had a strange handicap.  He had three legs!

Francesco was born on the island of Sicily in 1889.  When he was born, the midwife was so frightened she hid him under the bed and ran out of the room screaming.  Doctors believed his third leg was part of an undeveloped Siamese twin.  His leg could not be removed without danger to his life.

At first Francesco felt embarrassed about his deformity. But his mother and father brought him to a hospital where he saw children who had more serious handicaps than he did.  After that Francesco loved life and didn't mind that he was different from everyone else.
